South America, Peru, prehistoric period, ca. 5000 to 2000 years ago. A sinuously-shaped spearhead sharpener from ancient Peru, made from a pretty stone with reddish and beige hues. The sides of the sharpener have abstract anthropomorphic forms. The spearhead would be pressed against this narrow tool to release a thin flake of material from one side. A very rare find! Size: 2.25" W x 2.75" H (5.7 cm x 7 cm); 3.35" H (8.5 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950s to 1960s
