- Lot Description
North America, ca. millions of years ago. This is a stunning example of tiger eye stone, that has been excavated and polished on one planar surface to show off the silky graining and parallel crystals that create the chatoyancy, or "cat eye effect." The polished face presents dark gray-blue graining formed from asbestos (crocidolite). The darker gray-blue variety of tiger eye is known as hawk's eye, which can be thought of as the parent or previous phase of tiger eye. In this matrix there are streaks and golden-brown striations - a result of iron oxidation – that create a mesmerizing and marbled appearance to this stone! Size: 6" L x 1.75" W x 1.65" H (15.2 cm x 4.4 cm x 4.2 cm)
