Peter Max (American, b. Germany 1937). "New Moon II" mixed media painting with acrylic and color lithography on paper, 2006. Signed at upper right in acrylic paint. An original mixed media painting by Peter Max titled "New Moon II". The composition features a Zen monk holding an umbrella in the presence of a rising new moon, perhaps contemplating its promising associations such as new beginnings, fresh aspirations, and heartfelt intentions. The monk is the sole figure of the scene and appears to defy gravity and float above the horizon in the celestial realm, suggesting an otherworldly presence. All is delineated in Max's signature Neo-Expressionistic style and Neo-Fauvist palette. A breathtaking composition inspired by the Zen monks and sages who Peter Max saw in Shanghai during his childhood, mounted behind glass in an attractive custom frame. Size (artwork): 24" L x 36" W (61 cm x 91.4 cm) Size (frame): 38.25" L x 50.25" W (97.2 cm x 127.6 cm)
About the artist: Born in Berlin, Peter Max moved frequently with his family, living in more than six countries until they settled in the United States. Max studied in New York City at the Art Students League, the Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Art. Max has been revered as a visionary Pop Artist since the 1960's, beloved for his "Cosmic '60s" style which would later evolve to Neo Expressionism. Max developed a bold style of painting using striking Fauvist colors and intriguing themes. As he evolved from Pop to Neo-Expressionism, his work became more painterly and sensuous. Max's unique symbolism and vibrant color palette have continued to inspire new generations of Americans throughout the decades.
Peter Max's "New Moon II" is currently listed on Firerock Fine Art for $6500.

#181428Signed at upper right in acrylic paint. Mounted behind glass in an attractive custom frame, this artwork has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in excellent condition. Frame has a few minor scuffs that are difficult to see. Otherwise frame is excellent, fit with suspension wire, and ready to display.Condition
