Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin and Moche, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A grand necklace with beads carved from sodalite, one of the primary elements of lapis lazuli mined from the Andes and cherished since antiquity, translucent quartz crystal, amethyst, and greenstone. The central pendant is an anthropomorphic seated figure finely carved from sodalite. This is flanked by two round amethyst beads of lovely lavender hues. The remainder of the strand includes 18 lozenge shaped and 2 tubular translucent quartz crystal beads; four smaller greenstone bead, and two lozenge shaped sodalite beads - all arranged in a balanced, symmetrical design. All beads are ancient - strung in modern times to be wearable. Size: strand is 18.5" L (47 cm); central figural sodalite pendant bead is 1.375" L (3.5 cm)
An impressive necklace that displays fine workmanship and is comprised of ancient beads carved from superb stones. Interestingly, Sodalite is also known as Poet's Stone, and according to legend, sodalite promotes both creativity and mental lucidity.

Condition
A few internal cracks to quartz crystal beads. A couple of old chips to greenstone beads. Minute nicks to sodalite beads. All beads are ancient. Findings and stringing are modern. Lovely and wearable.
