Ancient Near East, Parthian Empire, ca. 247 BCE to 224 CE. A fine bone plaque hand-carved in the form of a draped male figure, perhaps a priest or dignitary, striding right with one hand raised. Crowned by a polos, the figure presents a thick coiffure and long beard, both incised with lattice motif, as well as a large eye and straight nose. His lower hand holds the remains of a petite object. Impressively preserved, this example is replete with fine detail. Size: 1.3" W x 3.9" H (3.3 cm x 9.9 cm)
Provenance: private Thousand Oaks, California, USA collection, acquired 1970s to 2000s
