Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, ca. 500 to 1200 CE. A beautiful and solid gold bell (comprised of 87% gold - equivalent to 20K) defined by its spherical body and central slit, a tapering shoulder, and a ringed upper border which holds an integral suspension loop. Though missing its original clapper ball, the bell shines through with brilliant yellow hues. The amulet is centered on a gorgeous necklace replete with dozens of faceted modern sapphires of deep cobalt-blue hues in the middle, several small gold spheres acting as separation beads, and dozens more forest-green modern emeralds which are faceted as well; a modern gold-filled loop and lobster clasp cap the terminals. In the Pre-Columbian world, gold possessions represented not only the owner's elite state but also sacred connotations as the yellow hues were associated with the sun and the celestial realm. A wearable and stunning example of ancient Panamanian gold artistry! Size (necklace): 25.75" L (65.4 cm); size (gold bead): 0.875" H (2.2 cm); quality of gold: 87% (equivalent to 20K gold).

Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Gold bell amulet is ancient, and small gold beads, gold-filled hardware, sapphires, and emeralds are modern. Slight bending and indentations to bell and loss to original clapper, otherwise intact and excellent. Light patina throughout.
