Walter Thomas "Tom" Grice (American, 1943-2011). Oil on canvas, ca. 2000. A striking painting of a Native American on horseback by American artist Tom Grice. The brave holds a firearm in his left hand, the horse's reins in his right, and carries a drum across his chest. His garments are made of tanned hide, and a tall plume of feathers crowns his head. His handsome caramel and white steed trots across the cactus-dotted desert. The scene takes place at either sunrise or sunset, as the landscape glows with brilliant hues of fuchsia, gold, orange, violet, and sage - a vibrant color palette inspired by the Taos School.
