Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Pachacamac culture, ca. 1000 CE. A fine textile panel comprised of tightly-woven natural cotton fibers in hues of beige, coffee, burgundy, and wheat. The textile boasts three distinct registers, each separated with intricate panels of abstract geometric motifs. The top register displays three abstract anthropomorphic figures, each with two heads, sinuous arms, and mutual diamond-shaped bodies. The middle register shows pairs of stylized avian figures with slender necks, rectangular beaks, and undulating feathers. The lower register exhibits stylized anthropomorphic figures within an undulating border which is surrounded with cresting wave-form motifs. Mounted against a fabric backing. Size (textile): 24.75" L x 22.5" W (62.9 cm x 57.2 cm); size (backing): 41.5" L x 39.75" W (105.4 cm x 101 cm).
