North America, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 100,000 to 20,000 years old. This is an amazing knife composed from a fossilized woolly mammoth tooth and a modern obsidian stone blade. The handle is made from a molar of this prehistoric animal, cut and polished on the ridged face to show off the beautiful colorations that developed from the silica and minerals during fossilization. The obsidian blade is a glassy black with more translucency closer to the sheerer cutting edge. While recently formed, it appears that this blade was using traditional and ancient flaking techniques. A brown cord is wrapped around the neck where the blade and handle meet. The knife is a fantastical imagining of what prehistoric humans may have constructed as a prized tool of prestige. This is an impressive item to display. Size: 9.5" L x 1.85" W (24.1 cm x 4.7 cm)
