Central Europe, Neolithic Period, Vinca culture, ca. 5700 to 4500 BCE. A gorgeous handmade pottery vessel of unique form, presenting a ring-shaped foot, a diamond-shaped body, a tubular neck, and a circular, flared rim. Presenting with a rich taupe hue, the ancient vessel is adorned with lovely white-painted incised striations forming four registers of vertical, diagonal, dotted, and undulating striations. Target-like designs are featured at each corner of the diamond-shaped body. A ribbon-like handle stretches from the shoulder to the rim with a decorative tab-shaped form protruding at the top. This piece has been tested using CIRAM thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the time period stated. A full report will accompany purchase. Though the CIRAM report states that this piece is Valdivian, further analysis of its characteristics has revealed that it is from Vinca culture.

Condition
Some loss to the foot. New material has been used to restore areas of the rim. TL hole by handle and on base. A few minor stable base hairlines. Expected surface wear commensurate with age as shown. Otherwise, impressively preserved with excellent remaining pigment and detail.
