Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. An attractive gold ring of a classic form with a minimalist shank that gradually expands as it nears the underside of the body. Displayed within the ovoid bezel is a hand-carved, russet-hued agate cameo featuring the left-facing head of an adult man with a slightly furrowed brow, an aquiline nose, pouty lips, and a delineated mandible, all beneath a relatively shaggy coiffure, perhaps depicting Caesar Augustus (also Octavian), the first emperor of Rome. Wearable as shown. Minor nicks and abrasions to cameo body and face, with light abrasions to ring body and shank, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina across ring body and shank, and good preservation to most finer details on face.
