Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A necklace of delicate form and fabulous colors that is strung with dozens of petite stone and faience beads. Dyed in polychrome hues, the faience pendants take on a variety of forms including several scarabs, tubes, geometric forms, and abstract shapes while 5 modern gold-filled spherical spacer beads are interspersed throughout the composition. The largest amulets are carved from stone and depict a djed pillar - symbolic of the spine, stability, endurance, regenerative power, and eternal strength - and a glazed steatite slab plaque with a uraeus cobra, a wadjet eye, and a cartouche of Pharaoh Thutmose III. Another plaque bead features another Thutmose III cartouche while the verso depicts the Pharaoh standing before Osiris. Size(necklace): 18" L (45.7 cm); (central djed pendant): 0.49" W x 1.43" H (1.2 cm x 3.6 cm)

Condition
Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Faience and stone beads are ancient; gold-filled spheres, stringing, and metal findings are modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to some beads, with softening to some finer details, and light earthen deposits on some beads, otherwise intact and excellent. Wonderful coloration remaining throughout.
