Roman, Republic to Imperial Period, ca. 2nd BCE to 3rd century CE. An incredibly beautiful and unique necklace strung with over 50 ancient glass and carnelian stone beads of warm citrine and cool blue and white hues - the glass coated in iridescence from age! The dangling glass pendants at the center are impressed with an eagle and antelope - both symbolic animals in Roman iconography. The beads are tastefully arranged in modern times on a thread with a modern gold hook clasp and large modern 69.2% to 78.69% (equivalent to 17K+ to 18K+) gold beads with granulated spheres. This is a wearable piece of jewelry that is both visually interesting and colorful! Size of strand: 16.5" L (41.9 cm); glass pendant: 1" L x 0.65" W (2.5 cm x 1.7 cm); gold quality: 69.2% to 78.69% ( equivalent to 17K+ to 18K+); weight: 36.5 grams
The gold beads, while modern, are delicately shaped and even accented with a red cadmium pigment - the design is certainly inspired by ancient Roman jewelry and blends in well with the rest of the ancient glass!
