Ancient Asia or East Africa, Miocene period to Pleistocene period, ca. 11.6 million to 4,100 years ago; Western Europe, The Netherlands, Dutch, ca. 18th century CE. A stunning necklace and a beautiful bracelet, both consisting of stegodon bone barrel beads and glass barrel Dutch trade beads strung on modern strands with lobster claw clasps. First, the necklace features thirty four stegodon beads in mottled hues of brown, tan, grey, and cream all arranged to gradually increase in size as they approach the center. The center of the necklace is decorated with three Dutch trade beads boasting a snowy white body with a vibrant horizontal band at their midsection; two have a vermillion stripe, while the most central bead has a streak of cobalt. Alternatively, the bracelet presents fourteen stegodon beads and a white trade bead displaying a band of cobalt blue. The perfect combination of ancient history and modern style! The stegodon, whose name means "roofed tooth" due to their distinctive ridged molars, is an extinct sister group of elephants and mammoths with no modern descendants.

Condition
All beads are ancient, but strands and clasps are modern. Minor abrasions to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Nicely polished surface texture throughout.
