Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca to Huari/Wari, ca. 500 to 700 CE. A delightful pottery whistle vessel in the form of a bowing male figure with supine hands before him, all skillfully hand-painted in hues of red, yellow, brown, black, and white. The bulbous body of the vessel doubles as the body of the figure, while his head projects diagonally from the top, connecting via a stirrup handle to a conical spout protruding from the other side. His elaborate visage displays giant eyes, a curved nose, gently parted lips, and long ears beneath a thick coiffure, while he wears a broad collar necklace and striped tunic. Blow through the spout to produce a lovely, high-pitched whistle! Size: 3.1" W x 4.1" H (7.9 cm x 10.4 cm)
