North America, Alaska, Greenland, and Canada, Inuit, Aleutian, or Punuk peoples, ca. 11th to early 20th century CE. An impressive collection of thirty five tools of various sizes and made from stone, iron, brass, whale bone, and walrus ivory. All of these items are related to hunting and fishing and included is an ivory scraper or adze for cleaning animal hides, a large slate spear head, a brass harpoon tip, a long bone needle, and a wide array of barbed fishing points made from bone. Living in harsh arctic conditions depended on hunting and utilizing all pieces of the animal, down to its bones and teeth, which is wonderfully displayed with this variety of tools. Condition
Surface wear commensurate with age and use. Nicks and chips to peripheries, with normal ossification as expected on whale bone items. Crack to corner of glass display lid. Heavy patina on some harpoon tips.
