Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Muisca (pendant) and Muisca/possibly Tairona (beads), ca. 1200 to 1538 CE. A wonderful piece a wearable art comprised of dozens and dozens of greenstone disc beads interspersed with 10 carnelian beads of beautiful orange-red hues and various shapes - bullet, tubular, and rounded. At the center is a lovely pendant - a well-preserved shamanic figure, its flat body comprised of 10-12K gold with gold wire intricately applied to create various details: headband, eyes, mouth, necklaces around his neck, hands, legs, genitalia, and instruments in his grasp. This type of figure is known as a tunjo, meant as an offering to communicate with the gods. Tunjos are found deposited in Lake Guatavita and other important bodies of water in the region, buried in caches, as grave ornaments, and at the entrances to temples. The use of gold on this example indicates its value, as most are made of copper or other less precious metals. Size: 16.5" L (41.9 cm) + 1.5" L (3.8 cm) tunjo pendant

Condition
Beads and tunjo are ancient; findings and stringing is modern. Tunjo shows wear commensurate with age, but details are still nice and the piece shows a glowing, warm patina. Minor, stable fissures/nicks to 3 or 4 of the carnelian beads. Minor nicks to a few of the greenstone beads, but otherwise very good.
