Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, early Moche, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A gorgeous mold-made pottery vessel of hemispherical form with an annular base and a wonderful stirrup spout. Boasting a lustrous hand-polished, blackware finish, the ancient vessel is skillfully adorned with the relief of a condor with his wings spread and his beaked-head turned to his right. The area below the animal's wings is striped to represent feathers. A fanned tailfeather sprouts from his posterior and is flanked by two sizable, clawed talons. A remarkable example from the early Moche! Size: 5.5" W x 6.9" H (14 cm x 17.5 cm)
