**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 450 to 650 CE. A wonderful and expressive pottery vessel depicting a seated figure leaning slightly forward. The pensive figure sits with his legs huddled beneath a shawl or blanket as he crosses his arms atop bent knees as if resting by a fire. His red-orange body features high burnishing marks and cream-hued pigment applied afterwards to create a bi-chrome presentation. A coca bag sling over his shoulder bears white spots along the narrow strap, and elaborate earrings dangle from his ear lobes. His countenance features wide, ovoid eyes, a broad nose above thin lips, tab-shaped ears, and a domed hat, and arching out from his back is a semicircular, stirrup-shaped handle. Size: 4" W x 7.75" H (10.2 cm x 19.7 cm)
