Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Caddo / Mississippian, ca. 900 to 1400 CE. A fabulous pottery jar with a round yet stable base, a bulbous body, a slender tubular neck, and a slightly flared circular rim- the surface adorned with sun or star cosmological motifs! Boasting a red-brown and smoky black surface from firing, the ancient vessel has been skillfully incised along its exterior body with triangular cross hatching around the base and neck and 4 repeating concentric circles around a five-pointed star or sunburst shape across the shoulder. A wonderful example of well-preserved pottery from the fascinating culture of the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex people! Size: 4.5" Diameter x 5.25" H (11.4 cm x 13.3 cm)
