Native American, Midwest to Southeastern United States, Caddo / Mississippian, ca. 1200 to 1800 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a squat form resting on a narrow, planar base. Presented in a red-brown hue, the vessel features a tapered lower body, a carinated midsection beneath a sloped shoulder, and a thick rim surrounding the basin. The shoulder is incised with a repeating program of serrated curvilinear bands enclosed within concentric bands, perhaps representing vines or another type of vegetal motif. White pigment is inlaid within the incised motifs to make them pop against the earthen surface colors. Size: 6.1" W x 2.9" H (15.5 cm x 7.4 cm)
