Native American, Alaska, Inuit / Native Alaskan, ca. 1950s. A striking walrus ivory tusk, hand carved into a cribbage board of a zoomorphic design. The cream hued tusk features an elongated curved body, thick at the root and more slender near the end, that is held up by four hand carved peg-like feet fitted into its base. Two pairs of thirty incised holes filled with black ink adorn the smooth convex surface of the tusk, along with linear striations of black that border the holes and separate the pairs from one another, indicating that this is a cribbage score board. At the tusk's root is the carved mouth of this adorable creature who's head features two incised nostrils, circular eyes, and pointed ears. Meanwhile, it has a long body with four carved legs that can be seen on the edges of the board and a spotted appearance that dots the entire top surface. Polished and well preserved, this game is sure to serve as an excellent conversation piece at your next cribbage tournament! Size: 16" L x 2.625" W x 2.25" H (40.6 cm x 6.7 cm x 5.7 cm)
