Oceania, Fiji Islands, ca. 1950 CE. A beautiful and hand-carved wooden throwing club (known locally as "i ula tavatava") with an elegant presentation. The club has an eight-lobed striking head with a central bulb projecting skywards from the middle. The neck is wide near the head and tapers gently towards the midpoint, and gradually flares out towards the handle. A repeating decorative register of carved triangular, rectangular, zigzag, and X-shaped motifs give the handle a stylish and personalized appearance while also increasing the grip. Covered in a lustrous espresso-hued patina, this is a gorgeous example from the Fijian Islands! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 3.75" W x 14.5" H (9.5 cm x 36.8 cm); 15.625" H (39.7 cm) on included custom stand.
