Ancient Seas, North America, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A sizable and attractive example of a fossilized tooth from a megalodon shark, one of the most ferocious hunters of the ancient seas, that is just over 5.5 inches (14 cm)! The triangular tooth features a V-shaped enamel with a lustrous hue of gray and warm yellow undertones and tactile serrations. The broad black bourlette features dozens of fine vertical striations, and the bulky root bears stable fissures across its matte dark-brown surface. Given how an average megalodon would contain around 276 teeth in its mouth at any given time, this tooth serves as a testament to just how enormous this ancient aquatic hunter would have been! When holding this tooth, it becomes understandable why some people intensely fear swimming in the ocean. Pictured stand not included, but available for an additional fee. Size: 5.66" L x 4.07" W (14.4 cm x 10.3 cm)
