- Lot Description
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Ignazia, Gnathian, Hellenistic Period, ca. second half of the 4th century BCE. A hand-built pottery kernos with four lidded offering cups used to hold votive offerings such as poppy seeds, wheat or barley. Black glaze covers all surfaces save for the stems and feet and bear petite X and circles motifs, geometrics, and linear bands in fugitive red, yellow, and white pigment. A high-arching handle projects up from the conjoined midsection of the vessels and enabled its owner to easily transport it. Size: 6.75" W x 4.625" H (17.1 cm x 11.7 cm)
