Bob Luna (2021) & Martha Keating. Painted paper mache eyeglasses with taxicabs, 1991. Signed and dated on the temples of the eyeglasses. If this piece doesn't make you smile, we're not sure what will! A collaboration between Denver artists, the late Bob Luna and his wife and artistic partner Martha Keating, this paper mache sculpture depicts an enormous pair of eyeglasses with great big green eyes attached via metal coils making them bobble within, and a pair of taxicabs transporting waving passengers adorning the ends of the frame. Size: 24.5" L x 30" W x 15" H (62.2 cm x 76.2 cm x 38.1 cm)
Luna and Keating collaborated on several public art projects in Denver. The team is perhaps best known for creating an ensemble of monumental mosaic tile murals titled "Neighborhood Epic" in the Highland area of Denver and recruited neighborhood residents and students to create the border of the murals with ceramic tiles. In Luna's words, "We wanted to put up representational images of the history of the neighborhood - our neighborhood. And we wanted to get people involved."
