- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine, hand-built pottery figure of a standing male, depicted with sturdy legs, large feet with delineated toes, a flat torso, square shoulders, and strong arms, bent at the elbows and held in fists before him. Flanked by a pair of quadrilateral earspools, his square face displays ovoid eyes with applied pupils, a round nose, and full lips held in a small smile. Lovely remains of black, white, and red pigment adorn his body, presenting lattice patterns on his shoulders and legs. Size: 6.7" W x 10.7" H (17 cm x 27.2 cm)
Provenance: private Southern California collection, California, USA, acquired through descent 2006; ex-private California collection, USA, before 2000
