Rome, Imperial, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wonderful gathering of 4 incised intaglios, 1 of glass and 3 of carnelian, all of ovoid form and boasting hues of coral, scarlet, pink, and peach. Made from glass, the first and largest intaglio presents the image of a classical pouring vessel with a flat foot, bulbous body, slender neck, flared rim, and a pair of strap handles. The remaining 3 intaglios are made from carnelian. One of these intaglios displays the image of the Mercury (Greek Hermes) holding a caduceus, while another features a depiction of Ceres (Greek Demeter) bearing a cornucopia. The last of the intaglios is the only one with a hemispherical face and exhibits the form of a standing bird. Size of largest: 0.5" L x 0.375" W (1.3 cm x 1 cm)

Condition
Losses to peripheries of three and loss to verso of one. All have minor softening of detail and some abrasions and nicks, commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice with light earthen deposits in areas.
