Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A nice group of three fossilized teeth from the prehistoric megalodon shark! The first has a polished section of the enamel and exhibits a lustrous dark black surface, while the verso displays some of the matte root and a gray layer of the enamel. The next has a matte brown root, and the polished enamel reveals mottled brown and gray layers. The last tooth is unpolished, and the enamel is naturally reflective, a result of the fossilization process. The array of hues that develop in the enamel and roots, as seen here, is a result of the minerals present in the water and sediment as the teeth fossilize. Size of gray tooth: 3.12" L x 2.32" W (7.9 cm x 5.9 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand; unpolished tooth: 3.17" L x 2.21" W (8.1 cm x 5.6 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand; black tooth: 3.12" L x 2.2" W (7.9 cm x 5.6 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.
