Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A lovely collection of three fossilized megalodon teeth with enamel that is polished and unpolished. The unpolished tooth is a lovely beige with light brown hue on the root and enamel. The root has accumulated barnacles from the time spent on the ocean floor! The other two have dark black and gray matte roots. The enamel of the smaller is completely polished, while the larger tooth has been polished on the tip to reveal the darker layers below. Megalodons were among the largest predators that the ocean ever saw. The teeth are the only parts of these sharks that remain, since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. The different hues seen here are a result of the minerals present in the water and sediment as these teeth aged. Size unpolished tooth: 3.81" L x 2.7" W (9.7 cm x 6.9 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand; largest tooth: 4.25" L x 2.875" W (10.8 cm x 7.3 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand; small polished tooth: 3.77" L x 3.05" W (9.6 cm x 7.7 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.
