Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fantastic collection of 20 mosaic glass fragments and 3 intact beads. Five fragments of a deep-blue ground display intricate foliate motifs and were once part of a larger tile; two fragments fit together to form a small rectangular tile with a red, white, and yellow flower in the center; three fragments display concentric bands of color similar to an Egyptian broad collar; four larger fragments each display vivid polychrome motifs of flowers and leaves atop dark grounds; three smaller fragments display canes of blue, yellow, and white glass, green and yellow glass, or blue, red, white, and yellow glass; an opaque white fragment bears a frilled design; two halves of a conical polychrome bead display undulating bands of color; and three intact, barrel-shaped beads exude a variety of earthen hues. A fabulous ensemble exhibiting many different styles of mosaic glass creation! Size of largest: 1.9" W x 2.375" H (4.8 cm x 6 cm).
