David Le Batard (Cuban-American, also known as Lebo, b. 1972). "Something to Hope For" and "Born Anew, When We Met You" - two acrylic paintings on plexiglass, 2019. Hand-signed "LEBO" in pigment on lower right and lower left corners respectively. A fascinating pair of pendant paintings by David Le Batard, who is also called Lebo in the art world. Both paintings demonstrate Lebo's innovative take on Postmodern Cartoon Expressionism in which he blends cartoon imagery and texts that suggest narratives with a penchant for bold line and saturated colors. In addition to paintings, Lebo has been widely recognized for his murals and sculptures. For more insight to Lebo's method and philosophy, please read the artist's statement below. Size of sight view: 7.5" L x 7.5" W (19 cm x 19 cm) Size of frame: 16" L x 16" W (40.6 cm x 40.6 cm)
Artist's Statement: "My aim in creating is to explore the purest, most spiritual elements of the arts and sciences (from astronomy to history, from music to physics) and to interpret them through the language of cartoons, giving them a unique and vibrant voice. After all, cartoons are a primordial form of expression that have always combined images in order to tell stories. We have only to think of rock paintings, hieroglyphics or religious iconography for our proof. In reality, even when we look a Picasso's work after 1905, it all becomes very hard-edged yet organic. The very essence of cartooning."
David Le Batard, better known as Lebo, was born to Cuban immigrant parents and raised in Florida. Today, Lebo is among the most respected muralists in Miami and his artwork has been featured internationally, in both private collections and as well as corporations such as Google, Microsoft, Lulu Lemon, Harley Davidson, Audi, Redbull, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Bacardi, Ketel One, and Ferrari.
