**Originally Listed At $350**
Near East, Byzantine Empire, ca. 7th to 11th century CE. A gorgeous set of two cast-bronze crucifix pendants. First is one-half of a reliquary cross (known as an "enkolpion" cross) with a bottom hinge, a pierced suspension bulb on top, and a recessed interior cavity for storing small prayers or locks of hair. The obverse side depicts a saintly figure with wide-open arms, and an illegible name is inscribed above the head. Second is a miniature processional-style cross pendant with four projecting arms, each with miniscule protruding elements from their corners, as well as a recessed central circle meant to hold a small glass bead, and a small perforation suspension loop on top. The obverse is covered in dozens of stamped circular designs. Both crosses have wonderful green and russet patina, and the verso of the reliquary displays a brilliant azurite patina as well. A beautiful duo! Size of largest (processional): 2.125" W x 3.25" H (5.4 cm x 8.3 cm).

Both crosses have age-commensurate surface wear, slight bending to overall forms, with some oxidation to processional cross, and fading to some imagery, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits as well as nice green and russet patina throughout. Verso of reliquary cross displays great azurite patina.Condition
