Northern Europe, England, London, ca. 1768 to 1813 CE. An impressive collection of 4 first edition volumes of "Medical Transactions" published by the College of Physicians in London in 1768, 1772, 1785, and 1813, each bearing a label from the Harvard University Library of the Massachusetts Medical College, a stamp from the Colorado Medical Library Association, and a stamp from Dr. George Cheyne Shattuck, Sr. (American, 1783-1854), former president of the Massachusetts Medical Society from 1836 to 1840 who established the Shattuck Professorship of Pathological Anatomy at Harvard Medical School. Medical theory and practice of the 1700s developed rapidly, as is evidenced by the extensive collection, which includes descriptions of diseases, their conditions, and treatments. A fascinating look at the growing technology and expansion of record keeping made possible by 18th-century advances in the printing press!
