Leonard Baskin (American, 1922-2000). Color woodcut on paper, an artist's proof, n.d. Signature and "proof" handwritten in pencil beneath image. A striking color woodcut by Leonard Baskin depicting a lone sunflower with pointed yellow petals and a stylized spiral over the seeded center delineated in shades of brown ranging from cocoa to chocolate. Sunflowers are usually associated with the sun and general happiness. This theme is rather unusual for Baskin, given that most of his oeuvre includes haunting images that lean toward the darker side. Size (print): 16.25" L x 12.5" W (41.3 cm x 31.8 cm) Size (matte board): 20.2" L x 16.4" W (51.3 cm x 41.7 cm)
