Western Europe, Germany, Altenburg, ca. 19th to early 20th century. A deck of antique playing cards by the German company Spielkartenfabrik Altenburg, and trademarked "ASS Altenburger." All are printed on paper cardstock as a set of 32. The style is the Sachsisches Bild double head with suits of acorns, hearts, bells, and leaves. Northern Germany favors 32 packs for the popular game of skat (scat). In addition to the skat deck, are 6 other cards from another deck that are a different size, with hearts, spades, clubs, and diamond suits. Size of skat cards: 4.25" L x 2.25" W (10.8 cm x 5.7 cm); other cards: 3.5" L x 2.125" W (8.9 cm x 5.4 cm)
