Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A sizable forged-steel axe head with a rectangular hafting shaft and a tall, thick neck. The lengthy blade head - along with its curved underside and sharpened edge - is of a more utilitarian form that would excel at chopping or shaping materials like wood, mud bricks, or large animal carcasses. Though meant for everyday work, any Viking could brandish an axe like this example for battle if the need arose. Size: 8.375" L x 1.625" W x 3.375" H (21.3 cm x 4.1 cm x 8.6 cm)
