Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. An exquisite, fossilized tooth from one of the ancient seas' largest and most ferocious hunters, the megalodon shark! The heart-shaped tooth bears a large, V-shaped enamel with sharpened edges where tactile serrations once were, fine vertical striations along the front and back, and a semi-lustrous, jet-black hue. The bourlette is recessed slightly recessed above the enamel and bears additional vertical striations, and the bulky root has fissures from where it has expanded with age. Given how the average megalodon had around 276 teeth in its mouth at any given time, this sizable example is a testament to just how terrifying this aquatic monster was! Size: 3.7" W x 5.2" H (9.4 cm x 13.2 cm); 5.1" H (13 cm) on included custom stand.
