**First Time At Auction**
Near East / Central Asia, Persia to Northern India, Islamic Indo-Persian / Mughal culture, ca. 15th to 19th century CE. A large stone dado panel hand carved with intricate interlocking latticework and octagons framing floral motifs. This architectural panel resembles a jali window, however it is solid without any piercing for allowing light to pass through and would have been placed on the lower part of the wall as a decorative element. Dados were aesthetic embellishments to magnificent buildings and temples in the Islamic world. The patterning is modeled on geometric forms that were prevalent in Islamic tradition - the mesmerizing repeating shapes represent the idea of infinity. Size: 50" L x 4" W x 19" H (127 cm x 10.2 cm x 48.3 cm)
