Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok), ca. 15th century CE. A beautiful, lidded vessel that is hand-built and glazed with hues of light blue and brown-green. The ring base has traces of a circular encrustation indicating the jar was fired on a tubular column in the kiln. The exterior walls are slightly ribbed and painted with a band of trailing vegetal motifs. The lid continues the ribbed surface and patterns. A spherical knob is set in the center, and the lid rests flush against the protruding lip of the body. The interior basin is also glazed a speckled blue color. An elegant and lovely jar! Size: 6.5" W x 5.5" H (16.5 cm x 14 cm)
