Northern Europe, England, London, ca. 1885 CE. A rare second edition book of "The Poetical Works of John Keats" with 8 photographic illustrations by John Payne Jennings (English, 1843-1926). The leather-bound codex presents 597 gilt-edged pages of poetry by John Keats, originally published in London by Reeves and Turner in 1885 and again by Chiswick Press - C. Whittingham and Co. and Suttaby and Co. Edited by Harry Buxton Forman, the full title of the book is "The Poetical Works of John Keats Given from his own Editions and Other Authentic Sources and Collated with Many Manuscripts." John Payne Jennings worked as a professional free-lance landscape photographer in the late 19th century. He was unique in his interpretation of the camera’s use with the pictorial attractions of East Anglia and his panoramic and scenic views of England were used by the Great Eastern Railway Company to encourage rail travel and tourism in the late 19th century. John Payne Jennings illustrated numerous books of poetical works in addition to that of John Keats, such as the works of Lord Byron, John Milton, Thomas Moore, and others. His photographs have been collected by many renowned institutions, including the Modern Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Saint Louis Art Museum.
