JD Hansen (American, b. 1969). "Pinot" bronze, 2015. Edition number 2 of 9. Signature, edition number, and foundry mark on bronze. A striking bronze bust of a majestic horse by American sculptor JD Hansen. Traditionally cast via the lost wax process, this form is expertly modeled with notable precision and skill in Hansen's signature manner which not only results in a lifelike equine presence but also captures "a compelling fusion of vulnerability and strength." In addition, Hansen's treatment of the surface of the bronze, with its intricate textures and blush red patinas are quite compelling. What's more, the coloring of this piece reflects its title. "Pinot" for pinot noir or pinot nero, a red-wine grape variety is ideal for any horse and/or wine lover as well as a showstopper for any collection! Size: 22" H x 32" W x 12" L (55.9 cm x 81.3 cm x 30.5 cm); 26" H (66 cm) on included custom stand.
About the artist: "A distinguished alumna of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, JD Hansen anchors her life and work in the vibrant artistic milieu of Southern California.
