- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow-built pottery figure of a woman standing atop enormous feet and delineated legs. She presents proudly with a straight posture, rounded shoulders, both arms placed above her hips, and a slightly protruding abdomen. Her elongated head bears coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, an impressed mouth, curved ears adorned with earrings, and an incised brow beneath her coiffure. Highly burnished and adorned with red pigment atop a cream ground, this is a minimalist and attractive example of ancient Jalisco figural artistry! Size: 5.25" W x 11.1" H (13.3 cm x 28.2 cm)
