- Lot Description
Jac Kephart (American, 1940-2019). "Carotene" mixed media oil painting on wood panel, ca. 1999. Signed at lower right. A mesmerizing large-scale abstract mixed media painting by the late Jac Kephart. Kephart titled this piece "Carotene" perhaps for the predominance of vibrant red and orange hues in the composition. However, Kephart's use of bronze sheets, iron sheets, and metallic pigments along with burlap also produce marvelous iridescence of violet, magenta, and electric blue hues; glistening gold, copper, and opalescent passages, as well as an array of palpable textures across the various geometric fields. What's more, Kephart's love of painting manifests in his lush brushstrokes, dynamic gestures, and rich impasto work. A breathtaking piece by Jac Kephart that invites us to explore and use our imaginations to freely interpret its sweeping expanse. Size: 48" L x 48" W (121.9 cm x 121.9 cm)
About the artist: Jac Kephart attended Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University) aspiring to a degree in architecture. In the end he pursued his passion for fine art, exploring abstraction as well as traditional landscape painting. In his words, "I am not documenting subjects or making statements; I'm creating original creations and trying to make an emotional connection. I want the viewer to connect with their viewing experience and be happy when they look at my paintings. I'll paint for the rest of my life, always searching for that one ultimate creation – art is a wonderful gift." Kephart's work was showed in galleries throughout the United States from Sarasota, Florida to Seattle, Washington.
