Middle East, Islamic world, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. Wow! Wow! Wow! A stunning medieval Islamic ring featuring a hand-carved oval carnelian intaglio of warm orange hues that is skillfully engraved with a calligraphic Kufic inscription and an elaborate 20K+ gold leaf foil pressed over brass setting. Truly a marvel for its design, it appears as if the intaglio and immediately surrounding bezel are rising from a larger scallop-edged, egg-shaped bezel that in turn rises from a symmetrically lobed shank. What's more, absolutely every exterior surface of the setting is further embellished with stylized motifs - zigzags adorning the shank and organic leaf-like forms adorning the bezel - making for a mesmerizing example. Total weight: 34.9 grams. Size: intaglio measures .75" L x .5" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm); ring from end to end 1.25" W x 1.375" H (3.2 cm x 3.5 cm); opening .875" W x .625" H (2.2 cm x 1.6 cm); US ring size: 7.75. Gold quality: 75.5% to 87%, equivalent to 18K to 20K+

Condition
Expected age wear with normal indentations to the bezel, a few minute losses to the heavy gauge gold leaf foil as shown. The intaglio shows slight surface wear but is otherwise excellent.
