North America, Western United States, Montana, Two Medicine Formation, Late Cretaceous, ca. 80 to 74 million years ago. An extremely rare pre-maxillary tooth of the tyrannosaur Daspletosaurus torosus. It is in remarkable condition and was found complete and unbroken! Coming from an underground discovery, it was protected from the harsh elements of the Montana Badlands, hence its extraordinary preservation. The incredible enamel and color are the result of its former burial and mineralization. The tooth features a complete chisel tip with a typical D-shaped cross-section. It was collected in association with other Daspletosaurus teeth and the shape and size are comparable to similar excavated examples. Faint serrations are visible along the edge, the posterior groove is well-shown, and entire crown shows the unusual form of these pre-max tyrannosaur teeth. Fine grade teeth of this apex predator tyrannosaur are extremely limited and difficult to come by, but a tooth in such superb condition is truly scarce! Size: 1.25" L (3.2 cm)
Fossil remains of tyrannosaurs represent the pinnacle of dinosaur fossil collections and exhibits the world over. Their universal appeal and rarity compared to ever-increasing market demand put fine quality Tyrannosaur fossils at the forefront of the most desirable fossils of any collection.
