Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley, Mehrgarh culture, ca. 3500 to 2800 BCE. A lovely, hand-built pottery fertility idol exhibiting characteristically feminine details. Presenting with bent legs as if sitting on a chair, the ancient figure displays wide hips beneath a dramatically corseted waistline and slender arms extended outwards as though gesturing. Ample breasts are shown between her broad shoulders, and her tab-shaped head bears impressed, annular eyes, a pinched nose, and an incised, and full lips, all beneath a shoulder-length coiffure. Liberal remains of black and orange pigment adorn her face and body. Size: 1.6" W x 4.5" H (4.1 cm x 11.4 cm)
