India, Mughal, ca. 19th century CE. An incredibly large and beautifully crafted bead comprised of granulated high karat gold (90% gold, equivalent to 20K+) and natural rubies presenting a well-balanced, symmetrical design - the upper section featuring four floral motifs ruby cabochons set in high bezels on a granulated gold ring, alternating with three granulated gold orbs. Beneath each flower is a petite gold blossom. The lower section is comprised of a band of nine flowers - each one made of four ruby cabochons (amounting to 36 additional ruby cabochons in total), a central large gold granule, and a gold granule below - all below a horizontal gold band that is decorated with a repeating circular incised pattern with a "beaded" border above and below. Condition
Stable fissures to second large ruby from the left. Otherwise, the rubies are excellent. Minor denting to a few of the large granules and the gold band behind the right-most ruby flower. A few granules missing from large central orb-shaped gold element. All in all, a very strong example.
