Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque culture, ca. 500 CE. A highly detailed standing terracotta figure depicting a titillating shaman in transformation dressed in ceremonial garments including a magnificent crescent-shaped headdress. This shaman figure is elaborately dressed, adorned with two beautiful large earrings which fall naturally over the side of his shoulders. A thick, double banded necklace graces his neck with a massive discoid ornament. He is clothed in traditional garments decorated in a linear motif. Upon his face he wears a mask that presents an intimidating visage comprised of bulging eyes, a snouted nose with an attached nose ring, and an open mouth revealing sharp teeth and a salacious tongue which is extended out over his neck. Two long ponytails project from the back of the shaman's head, with the highlighted linear motif contouring the whole of the body. An amazing piece, with remnants of its original paints and pigments visible scattered throughout. Size: 4.2" W x 6.8" H (10.7 cm x 17.3 cm)
