**Originally Listed At $400**
East Asia, China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 907 CE. A charming, hollow-molded terracotta sheep laying in a recumbent position. Hooved legs are tucked beneath the muscular body, and a thick neck supports the conical head. Rounded ovoid eyes, drooping ears, a crested snout with slit-form nostrils, and a petite mouth define the zoomorphic countenance. Scattered areas of the original buffware surface are exposed where the dark-grey pigment has worn away, though this certainly does not detract from the skilled artistry of this fabulous example! Size: 6.9" L x 2.7" W x 3.125" H (17.5 cm x 6.9 cm x 7.9 cm).
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, purchased in Hong Kong in the 1980s
